This Sunday, people across the UK will gather to mark the centenary of the Armistice that ended the First World War in 1918. At St Mary’s, our main service will take place from 9-10am, so that we may take part in the ‘Balham Remembers’ observance, in which people from across our neighbourhood will participate. The observance begins at 10.45am at Bedford Hill Place SW12 9RJ (behind Sainsbury’s). Everyone is warmly encouraged to join us for this important event in the life of our community and the nation as a whole.
Join us at St Mary’s at 7.30pm on the first four Wednesdays of August for ‘Theology on a Summer’s Eve’, an informal gathering to discuss some of the pressing social justice issues of our day. The sessions will focus on the specific areas of poverty, inequality, displacement, and the environment. All are very welcome.
People of all ages are very welcome to join us for our next Family Service, ‘Counting our blessings’, which will take place on Sunday, 29 July at 4.30pm. The service will last for 1/2 hour and be followed by a party to celebrate summer. Family Services at St Mary’s will resume on Sunday, 30 September.
People of all ages are very welcome to join us for our next Family Service, ‘A bit of peace and quiet’, which will take place on Sunday, 24 June at 4.30pm. The service will last for 1/2 hour and be followed by a brief craft activity.
Started a few years ago by our neighbours at the Church of Ascension, in Balham Hill, ‘Love Balham’ is an annual event of witnessing to God’s love by practical acts of service to our local community. This year, members of St Mary’s will be joining in — a great opportunity to bring our two churches together. Participants will gather this Saturday at 9am for breakfast and prayers at Ascension Church (23 Malwood Rd, SW12 8EN). To get involved, please contact the Vicar.
