St Mary’s is a lively and friendly parish church situated on the High Road at the heart of
the Balham neighbourhood in south-west London. We are an inclusive, diverse, and
modern liberal-catholic church that places music at the heart of our worship. There is
an adult volunteer choir (SAMen) of mixed ability that sings at our main Sunday service

The Director of Music works alongside the Vicar in selecting choral and congregational
music for services throughout the liturgical year. Our regular Sunday Eucharist is at
10.30am, and the choir currently meets at 9.45am for a run-through, and then again
between 12-12.45pm to rehearse music for coming weeks. The Director will be
expected to direct and/or play the organ most Sundays and at occasional services as
arranged in advance.
A voluntary organist is available, and paid deputies can be arranged in exceptional
circumstances by agreement. Remuneration is set at £300pcm, with six weeks paid
leave per year. The Director will also have first refusal in playing at weddings and
funerals in the church, which pay a standard fee of £120.
For further information, please contact the Vicar, the Revd Robert Tobin, at:, or on 020 8673 1188.
Applications by email (including a covering letter explaining your interest in the post,

organ audition, and a sample choir practice.
