Everyone is warmly invited to join us here at St Mary’s this Wednesday, 27 March from 10am-12pm for the launch of our new ‘Place of Welcome’ initiative. The Mayor of Wandsworth will also be with us for our opening celebration. Then, every week at the same time, we will be opening our doors on Wednesdays to anyone who may be looking for a safe and friendly place to have a hot drink and a chat. To learn more about how to get involved in this exciting new opportunity, please contact Chris Serbutt at email@example.com.
Everyone is welcome to join us on Tuesday, 19 March at 7.30pm for the last in our ‘Interactions’ series of talks on art and faith here at St Mary’s Balham. Canon Judith Maltby (University of Oxford) will speak on ‘Excellent Women: Anglican Women Novelists from Charlotte Bronte to P.D. James’. Admission is free. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for details.
Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, a season of self-examination, repentance and preparation for Easter. Since the Middle Ages, Christians have observed the start of Lent by having their foreheads marked in ash with the sign of the cross as a gesture of penitence and as a recognition of mortality. All are welcome to join us for our Ash Wednesday services:
12.30pm: Eucharist with Litany (Holy Family Chapel)
8pm: Eucharist with the Imposition of Ashes (Nave)
