Walk the Way of the Cross this Holy Week .
There will be services Monday to Thursday night, 8pm, each with a specific theme. Monday is Stations of the Cross, Tuesday a Eucharist with laying on of hands and anointing (prayers for healing), Wednesday a meditative service with space for silence, on Maundy Thursday we remember the Last Supper with a service of Eucharist and footwashing, followed by a silent vigil till midnight. On Good Friday there will be a short children’s service at 10am and we remember Jesus’ final hour at 2pm.
After getting the church ready on Saturday morning, we then meet again on Saturday evening at 8pm for a vigil, followed by the lighting of the new fire and the new Paschal Candle. The light is then brought into the church, where members of our congregation will remember their baptismal promises.
Easter Day services will be at 8am and 10.30am.
You are welcome at one or all of them.
Our Palm Sunday service will start at 10.30am at the junction of Hildreth Street and Bedford Hill where the palms will be handed out and blessed, after which we process back to church via Balham High Road. Please join us on this act of witness in our local community.
As we walk to church we will hand out Holy Week and Easter cards.
Once back in church the service continues with Eucharist and a dramatic reading of the Passion.
This year Lent begins on 18 February, Ash Wednesday.
To get the most of the season of Lent, which is a period of reflection and preparation for Easter, you may want to plan what you are going to do, or not do.
Why not begin by returning your palm cross to church by 16 February, so ashes can be made for Ash Wednesday. Services on 18 February will be at 12.30pm, Eucharist with Litany, and 8pm, Eucharist with Imposition of Ashes.
You may want to consider being part of a Lent course – a weekly study group, for 6 weeks on Tuesday eve or Wednesday afternoon. Together we will study and learn and explore as pilgrims on the faith journey. Contact the curate if you are interested.
More suggestions about Lent will appear here later.
